4 Thieves Vinegar Oh Shit, or what I’m going to call Part 3
If you haven’t read Part 1 and Part 2 go and get them read because you need the back story.
This part is about knowing who you are listening too and KNOW YOUR SELLER!!! Yes, I’m screaming right now.
Remember in Part 2 how we talked about the 4 Thieves that gave up their recipe and said either bathe in it or consume it? These are two options when using this type of vinegar. It’s full of all sorts of good bacteria and virus killing ingredients. You can add it to your bath water or rub it on during a shower. I’ve even added some to my body soap for that day, the vinegar will break the soap down so don’t add a crap ton to your shower gel bottle.
Rubbing it on your body would keep the fleas (what was moving the plague around) from biting you. It seems like they don’t like natural bug killers and a lot of those herbs are bug killers or repellents. BUT and yes, I’m yelling some of those herbs can be dangerous. Rue, for example, is a photosensitive (among other things) plant meaning if a lot is on your skin and you’re in the sun you can crazily burn, like blisters and bleeding in no time. You don’t want that right. Depending on your skin some of the ingredients can be harmful to you. It can irritate your first line of defense, your skin. Do you know if you’re allergic to any of those herbs? Just because you aren’t drinking it doesn’t mean you won’t have a reaction.
I tell my buyers they can drink my 4 Thieves’ Vinegar NO LONGER AVAILABLE the ingredients are safe to drink. Use it as a salad dressing or take a spoonful (or shot glass full) when you feel a cold or flu coming on. I can’t say that for someone else’s bottle of Four Thieves Vinegar (please don’t come to me and ask why you got sick from another seller’s vinegar).
When you buy something from a seller you NEED to follow their directions on how to use that product. Remember in Part 2 when I said this whole recipe thing was like a game of telephone. The recipe is changed and tweaked by each person that creates it. You could be very sick by drinking someone’s vinegar because it was never created for consumption. The lore behind the vinegar states it was used for cleaning those recipes are a bit different (at times) than recipes for consumption.
YOU MUST KNOW YOUR SELLER AND THEIR PRODUCT!
Now, I want to bring up a few things for you to think about.
There are two very BIG and popular (although depending on who you talk to, they are losing their popularity) Essential Oil companies that make their own version of Four Thieves. They make oils though. The first one that trademarked and registered the name Thieves uses: Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary. Look at that list again. What’s missing? What’s added? Hmmmm.
The second oil company was forced to create a new name so theirs sounds more like being ready for a fight. I’m seeing two guys with swords “On Guard!” they yell before slashing their swords together. This company uses Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Eucalyptus Radiata, Rosemary, and Wild Orange. Hammm, again do you see things missing, and things added?
If I pull over the list from Part 2, it consists of: Rosemary, Sage, Lavender, Bay Leaves, Dill, Pine Needles, Oregano, Eucalyptus, Peppermint or Mint, Black Peppercorns, Cayenne Pepper, Coriander, Chili peppers, Rue, Thyme, Wormwood and Juniper Berries, Clove, and Cinnamon.
These two huge essential oil companies are both using Clove and Cinnamon which comes from the Farmer’s Almanac recipe. They have both added citrus, which isn’t in our Four Thieves ingredient lists. Tweaking at it’s best. These oils both use Rosemary and Eucalyptus that comes from the original recipes.
But are you ready to have your mind blown?
I was hoping you’d say yes.
There is another medicinal vinegar recipe, it’s normally called Fire Elixir. Rosemary Gladstar calls her recipe Fire Cider. It has been floating around for a long time, lots of people I know that were young in the 1960s-70s know of it as a hippy thing. Anyways, let’s look at those ingredients for a minute shall we?
The base is Apple Cider Vinegar. Added to that is: Horseradish, Garlic, Ginger, Onions, Cayenne or chili peppers, Rosemary, Turmeric, Lemons, and Oranges or any other citrus, and Cinnamon. There are a few optional ingredients like Echinacea, Rose Hips, Thyme, Sage, Parsley, Oregano, and Pineapple.
Did you see that? Citrus, LEMONS, AND ORANGES. What are the citruses that are in those 2 big oil companies blends? Lemons and Oranges? Well, isn’t that interesting. They claim to be Four Thieves oils from the folklore yet they have added ingredients that aren’t in the lore’s list, they do have ingredients from the Fire Elixir’s list actually if you look at it the only thing that is different from the Fire Elixir is the clove.
Do I dare say it, Fuck it. It seems to me Young Living and DoTerra’s are not making a thieves anything they have a tweaked Fire Elixir oil.
KNOW YOUR SELLER!
I’m hoping these series has been informative in not only the legend of Four Thieves Vinegar and it’s creation but also in the importance of knowing who you are listening to, who you are buying from, and what exactly you are buying. Know your seller is so extremely important.
